Chestfield Warriors Junior reaches Nationals

The South East Junior Qualifers Are…

5th October 2013
The South East (Kent and Sussex) Junior qualification competition took place today at Byng Hall TTC. There were some fantastic matches to watch and it was great to see all the battles that took place. The level of play seemed to be much higher than previous years, which is fantastic to see.

The final group battling for the top 4 spaces were: James Smith (K), Luke Carter (K), Harry Collins (Sx), Jack Merton (K), Connor Russell (K) and Toby Bartram (K). Kent had a fantastic turn out for the final group. Harry Collins had a great competition in making the final group on a count back decision but unfortunately couldn’t quite make the top 4 with just one win over Luke Cater but a fantastic effort from the Sussex reprentative. James Smith proved the dominant player going unbeaten the entire day, with Toby Bartram putting some fantastic performances throughout the day.

Kent Schools U19 Table Tennis championship,

PRESS RELEASE 26th November 2012
Queen Elizabeth’s students progress to U19 Schools Table Tennis Championship
Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School arrived at the Howard School in Rainham for the Kent Schools U19 Table Tennis championship, held on Wednesday 21st November, hopeful of repeating their 2011 triumph. A strong team made up of Jake Coombes - age 17, Jacob Midson - age 18, Connor Russell - age 14 and Joe Kay - age 13, had all shown good early season form in the build up to the competition. Connor Russell was already having an exceptional season in the Canterbury League, division 1 - with only one loss to date.
In the early rounds of the competition there were some comfortable wins with an 8-0 thrashing of Rainham Mark Grammar School being a highlight. Queen Elizabeth’s strong performances earned them a place in the final against a great rival, The Howard School, whom we only beat in 2011 on count back of legs, when drawing 4-4. On this occasion, Queen Elizabeth’s triumphed 5-3, with Connor Russell providing the outstanding performance of the afternoon beating England ranked, Ben Foster.
Special mention must go to Joe Kay who, at only 13 years old, was competing against much older players but still managed to win all his matches - a great achievement.
Queen Elizabeth’s are now looking forward to having another crack at the southern region zonal championships, which will be held on 20th January, at Tower Hamlets School in London. Last year the team were narrowly defeated by Brighton College, who eventua

Local player Paul Waumsley in Disabled event in Merseyside

Paul's most recent Table Tennis Tournament took place at the Greenback Sports Academy Liverpool on the 11th December 2011. Paul has been preparing for this tournament in Deal and surrounding Leagues and represent Castle Community College D Team at Deal in the local Dover League.

There were over 80 competitors in this Merseyside event in various classes from wheelchairs, standing players, Novice and Elite; However, the top Four Elite Players were not in attendance which was a shame as Paul was Ranked number three for any Standing player that can Stand from 6-12 Classes (Paul is class 8).

Paul's Competition consisted of 8 Players Classes 6-10 Two groups of Four, With Male /Female So Paul had 3 group matches which he won 2 in straight sets in Shaun Alvey No 17 whom i previously never beaten(lost twice) and Ella Booker No 5, however the third match with vastly improving newcomer Sam Bell No 31 was a titanic struggle which Paul managed to win in 5 sets but close, coming top of the group with two going through. Bell was runner-up.
In the second group there was Adam Thompson England No 5, Felicity Pickard No 8, Phillip Sangchin No 22 and Peter Cameron Scottish No 1. With Cameron winning the group and Thompson going through as runner-up. Paul then played Thompson winning in four sets comfortably. Then Cameron lost to Bell which left Paul with a repeat of the first mornings match in the Final where against Bell, sadly Paul could not repeat the win, losing in four sets 12-10 9-11 13-11 11-7. This was a very close match and Paul had only had 5 matches in six hours but Sam Bell showing as a worthy winner, leaving Paul runner up in the classes 6-10 categories. Paul is having his best season ever in Dover and Canterbury leagues and in the National Competitions.

The next competition for Paul will be in Crewe, the BTTAD Grand Prix, the lead up to the Olympics in March 2012 where all the Elite Squad will be in attendance.
